Knowledge is Power
No matter what kind of vehicle you drive, eventually you will need to make a repair. While some people are partial to a particular category--traditional combustion power produced by gasoline or diesel, hybrid, or electric--they may still have concerns or strong opinions about commonly reported problems. The reality is that every kind of transportation has both advantages and disadvantages. The key is awareness because knowledge is power. Thus, if you prefer an electric vehicle, knowing the most common problems can help you recognize and prevent trouble. Whether your EV is domestic or Asian, King's Auto Service in Raleigh, North Carolina, is here to help you with electric car repair.
Common Problems
Although we'll need to check your vehicle to ensure accurate identification of any issues you're experiencing, we're glad to provide information about the most common electric vehicle repairs. Not surprisingly, the number one source of trouble is battery life. Although batteries generally last a long time, their capacity tends to decrease a bit over time. Some experts estimate that you lose as much as 2-3% each year. However, actual battery life can vary based on other factors. For example, electric cars operating in cooler climates tend to have longer battery life than those driven in warmer areas. Another complaint lodged by some drivers revolves around internal/cabin electronic components such as screens, locks, and power features that sometimes appear to stop working sooner than they should. Perhaps this might be accelerated by another frequent concern--leaks. Some electric models seem to be more susceptible to water entering the passenger area. Design flaws and/or seal failures are not good for electrical components. Finally, the range may be reduced in cold weather. Unlike combustion engines that generate a lot of heat, an EV has to use its stored energy to produce the heat needed to keep passengers warm.
